Adult Cats - The Underdogs

Kittens! Kittens! Everywhere! It's hard to deny it - kitten season is here - look around and there are kittens everywhere. The shelters are flooded, and with kittens coming out of every corner, there are faces that are left unseen. Adult cats and preteens that may have grown up without a family or are just past that "cute kitten" phase have been waiting patiently for their big break, only to be shoved out of the way by those fluffy little, irresistable, ridiculously cute kittens! With so many cats being left overlooked, these "underdogs" need somebody in their corner. Think about what it is you want in a cat, and look for a homeless cat that suits your lifestyle, whatever age they may be.

so much for daily blogging...

lol i guess i should be a little less ambitious. i'll be happy with a couple blogs a month.

in the meantime, i'll try to work on a theme, or voice i guess. i have re-thought my idea of this blog - although i'm still not quite sure what i'm doing with this. i work in animal welfare, and that's the route we're going. it can be horrible, but also very fun and entertaining. i hope to show both sides... jokes, stories, photos from my life and experiences.

at the same time, i want to provide a service and gain something from that... learn more about myself, and grow as a person. i want to use my creativity and of course, profiting from that would be just swell. i guess i'll work on it. in the meantime - this would be a good place for a photo. but i don't have one. damnit, i'm terrible at this.

One

Well it's June 1, 2010 - a good day to start blogging. This is the first step in my business plan. Start blogging and get people to read it. I'm taking my cue from that movie Julie & Julia, and i'm going to try to make a point to write something every day. It's going to be a combination blog/photo journal of my adventures with my dog, Ramsey. I guess this is as good a blog as any to introduce Ramsey, my giant boy.

That's about the best photo i have right now... unfortunately my camera battery has been dead for some time now. I have no clue where the damn charger is. I don't think it accurately portrays the massive beast - you can see his pitiful mickey mouse ears though. Somebody gave him a bad pit crop and his ears are all but gone. He's about 5-6 years old (we think) and was surrendered to PAWS by a guy that had him for about a month. Ramsey had testicular cancer when we came in, but neutering him took care of that. The guy that surrendered him said ramsey was given to him from a friend or guy he knew that was deployed but since he can't have Dobermans on Fort Benning, he couldn't keep him any more so he turned him in to my work. My name is Stefani by the way. This is me...

... and my husband. Buzzard is my last name, i married Joseph Buzzard two years ago next month. In fact, he brought Ramsey home for our 1-year wedding anniversary last year. See, i work at PAWS Humane. We are a nonprofit "no-kill" animal shelter in Columbus, Ga. My husband and i... we were JUST married, living in a 2bdrm apt with 2 cats that we had adopted within our 1st year of marraige. we had fostered kittens and dogs, but weren't planning on keeping another animal. I was working in Admissions/Quarantine and just fell in love with this dog. After he was on the adoption floor for a few days, where i visited Ramsey every morning for a quick cuddelfest before going to Quarantine, i was told by my coworkers that he was being adopted from somebody out of state. I was sad, but happy for him. Of course, its always a good thing to hear that an animal is leaving us. Weeks later, i kept asking "when are his owners picking him up?", and "Geeze, ramsey's still here? what the hell?" and all my coworkers listened to me gush about how much i love this dog. Then for our anniversary Joe asked me to help him with something outside and here comes Ramsey pulling my husband to the front door.

He's big. Hella big. A very healthy 110 lbs of Doberman. Much larger than your normal Dobie - he's a giant. I looked online and found what they call a "warlock doberman" (http://www.webspawner.com/users/jkkseurodobermans/warlockdoberman.html) but he's just the biggest love ever. I had never been fond of Dobies, but this dog just stole my heart. He loves being touched and petted and loved on. He'll rest his head anywhere on you, and lean into you to soak up any attention you will give him.

I think i'm gonna wrap it up right there. I guess i wrote a lot, but i'm gonna try to focus on the layout. i need images i guess. goodnight for now. it's already 9pm. i had IKEA meatballs n gravy for dinner. They were so delicious.
